What types of AC units are the ceiling kit compatible with?

The duct portion of the kit comes in offerings of 12”, 16”, or 20” diameters, with custom options available. These standard sizes are designed to fit most conventional portable AC units on the market. The tiles offer flange sizes to match the duct diameters, and the tile footprint is standard at 24” x 24”. Before you purchase the AC Exhaust Tile and Duct Ceiling Kit, confirm that the duct size matches the AC unit and the exhaust tile flange.

How do I secure the kit if my ceiling grid isn’t perfectly square?

Accepted Answer

If your ceiling grid isn’t perfectly square, a good idea is to cut an existing tile or two to fit snugly to the exhaust tile so there’s no gap left in the ceiling. For example, let’s say your drop ceiling uses tiles that are 24” x 48” while our exhaust tile comes standard 24” x 24”. Remove one of the existing ceiling tiles and insert the Norseman exhaust tile. Slide it into place snugly on one side of the drop ceiling grid frame. Measure the remaining gap in the ceiling (should be a 24” x 24”) and cut the longer tile carefully with a utility knife to that exact measurement and slot the piece into place to cover the gap. Or maybe you want the tile in the middle of the frame? Then you can cut two pieces at 24” x 12” to fit on either side of the exhaust tile and fill the gap.

Is it possible to extend the duct beyond the standard 8’ or 15’ lengths?

What’s the best way to clean the duct?

Accepted Answer

The best way to wash the duct is with good, old-fashioned soap and water, or even with careful use of a pressure washer. The duct has a UV-resistant chrome finish and a PE wear strip that keeps the finish bright so that it won’t change color even after extended use; however, periodic cleaning is recommended to maintain peak performance.

Are additional tools needed to attach the ducting to the ceiling tile?

No, the innovative QuickGrip collar connection on the duct and ABS ceiling tile allows for a snug, tool-free connection.

How does the step-flange neck keep the ducting secure?

Accepted Answer

The AC Exhaust Tile’s step-flange neck is unique. At the end of the neck, there is a 3/8” lip flare that will prevent the ducting from sliding off. The total height of the neck is 3.5” with a 2” indented section the duct collar grips onto.

Are the ceiling tiles heavy? Are they difficult to install?

The tiles are made with ABS material. Therefore the AC Exhaust Tile is lightweight and very easy to install. Even a larger 24” x 24” tile is easily lifted overhead by a worker on a ladder for effortless installation.

Does this product cut down on noise at all while being used?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Noise reduction is important as these units are primarily installed indoors in occupied environments. A wire helix and smooth interior on the exhaust duct eliminate peaks and/or valleys inside the ducting. This allows for unrestricted airflow, making it not only quieter but more efficient.

Why is there a black exhaust duct option?

Norseman manufactures a black exhaust duct color option, which has the ability to blend in better to the surroundings of where it's being used. This can be valuable on sets in the film or theatre industry, but also in retail environments such as clothing stores, malls, etc.
